Sounds Good to Me

Attorney General Michael Mukasey has called for a formal declaration of war against al Quaeda. Naturally, "Democrats in control of Congress and civil rights groups reacted coolly, saying Mukasey's proposals would avert legal oversight and stack the deck in favor of the administration." That last part intrigues me greatly: "stack the deck in favor of the administration." So the Democrats are...what, exactly? Trying to insure a fair playing field between terrorists and the Bush administration? Are the Democrats under the impression that the war on terror is some kind of contest between al Quaeda and George Bush, personally? If I were the sort of person to...you know...doubt their patriotism...it might cause me to formulate some very wicked notions about the Democrats' capacity - perhaps even their willingness - to grasp reality.

I think what they are afraid of, is that the President might get some bizarre idea that he's in charge of the military, which of course would erode Congress' Constitutional role as 535 Commanders-in-Chief.

Steve: Sometimes I wish those 535 commanders would have a falling out and form a circular firing squad.
