Australian Prime Minister Signs Death Warrant of Planet

Tim Blair has the lowdown on the response of leafy green heads in Australia to Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's substantial backtracking on target benchmarks for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The PM, who ran on a platform which supported reductions of 25-40% by 2020, has rolled out a new goal of...er...5%.

Leftist enviromaniacs are smoking like ockra in an untended wok:

"...he’s put the planet in grave danger."

"We could be an inspiration to the world. Now we are its pariah.”

"Prime Minister Kevin Rudd is too weak on climate change, according to protesters who staged a sit-in at his Morningside electorate office this afternoon."

Five percent is a good start, but I think he needs to get it down further; maybe to one percent - or zero.

Mr. Rudd's proposal to reach his 5% reduction is to instruct the Green Party to take a deep breath and hold it... hold it... hoooooold it....

Kevin Rudd is a Vogon?

Great disguise.

Except for the wax-munching.

You mean he is going to pass on the opportunity to be an "inspiration" to India and China? I'm saddened almost beyond words.

A 25% reduction is just about a zero base by 2020. Northern polar ice cap gone by the end of 2013. Why am I having trouble getting hysterical over his policy shift?

Paco...Maaaaate! Ya gotta hand it to the krudster, it got almost universal condemnation. Still, the leader of the so-called opposition down here is as wet as a messdeck scrubber, but he's as rich as he is spineless.
The MSM are slobbering over the extent of green protests, especially the one in Sydney today that drew 11 participants.

BTW, while we're on %ages and markets, stuff like that, what's the going rate for the NY Senate seat? I imagine it's well within the Kennedy's budget.

OSM: Sorry to hear that the opposition is so drippy.

Oh, yes, the NY senate seat wouldn't even dent the Kennedy budget.

Old Sailor Man, I don't think a Kennedy has to pay for a Senate seat; it's given to them by right.

Sorry, mates. WE are the world's pariah! Australia will have to be Vice-pariah.

Rinardman: Vice Pariah seems fair.

Another Kennedy senator? The one good thing Governor Arnold did for this country was to prove that being a Kennedy is a sexually transmitted disease...

Well a five percent reduction is really much more than it appears per capita because you have to consider natural population growth and high immigration and... err what the heck, it doesn't matter anyway.

Great and dear leaders like Rudd can announce their visionary plans but economic realities take their natural course and life goes on.

Most unfair of greens to say Rudd will sign the planet's death warrant, actually all of us common folk expect to have a share of the action and be good vice pariahs,
