I've heard that burglars are more afraid of small dogs than big ones because they're more likely to bite and they're harder to stop. And also, it's common knowledge that the smaller the dog, the bigger the ego.
Those robbers were a comedy team. The one points the shotgun at his partner, and then at the dog before they flee. Thankfully, the moron didn't pull the trigger, because the town would have raised a posse. They sure run fast.
