Sunday funnies

Troglopundit considers a new military policy.

A historical gallery of Paco Enterprises’ fine products. Like this duck-hunting gunboat:

I could use that duck hunting boat!

Good to see that you weathered Irene. I imagine Mabel growled at the intrusion, and Irene took a different track.

We slept on the lower level, and Mabel paced the floor most of the night. Not very conducive to sleep.

We were extremely lucky; no damage, and we only lost power for a couple of hours early Sunday morning.

Glad you came out of this unscathed. They're playing beisbol in Baltimore right now so things are returning to normal in your neck of the woods. If you ever want to use the term "normal" in conjunction with the DC area, that is.

It was 117 in Phoenix the other day. We have had record breaking heat 4 of the last 5 days. Unusual to break that many records back-to-back.

Slipping on a banana peel, must've been a Deroit Tiger! Bwahaha.

A punt gun.

Don't give the birds a chance to duck!

It usually is. You'll note that Thone got his 600th home run recently - against the Tigers. Still, they're in first place in their division (as are the Arizona Diamondbacks, I see).

Actually, it is a Tiger. That's Jose Valverde, your closer. The Tigers have two UA Wildcats-Daniel Schlereth and Rick Perry(back in the minors).

I like to root for the Tribe because they have a BOATLOAD of Wildcats in their minor league system. They drafted every Wildcat in sight a year ago!

Yeah, the Diamondbacks are a shock, the Tigers aren't, they are a solid ballclub and should go deep in the playoffs with their pitching and experience. Wouldn't be surprised to see them in the World Serious.:)

The duck boat was great, especiall when I originally thought it used a harpoon. That seemed practical. The skilled hunter/gunner could get more than one bird as with the cannon, but wouldn't need a dog to retrieve the game.

Glad to hear everyone is okay. Hope Mabel gets some peace soon. Greta, the collie we had (God bless her) would hide in the bathroom at the first rumblings. She was like an ostrich with her head between the toilet and bath and the rest of her body across the floor. She'd shake a bit, but felt like there was a chance to survive. She was a beautiful great goofy, loving girl.

Um, haven't changed your mind on Christina Hendricks as VP have you?

re: Greta.

Feel your loss.

One of our female Collies is that way.

Raise and show Smooths.

Thanks JP. It's been alot of years but I still miss her. We had never had a collie. They got her while I was away in the Army. She was the prettiest collie I had ever seen. Lassie would have been envious. She didn't have the straight narrow head. It had a forehead. As silly as the day is long. Mom had been given a toy parrot in a plastic cage that made a noise if you jiggled it. Greta was convinced that it was real, and her mothering instinct kicked in. She tried to lick it through the bars. Just like the night that she found a baby cottontail on the front lawn, and adopted it. Cottons play dead when confronted like that. Well, she loved it to death. Thankfully, the kitten that had been dumped at our ranch fared better. I could go on. Enjoy you collies. Give 'em a big hug and an extra biscuit for me, okay?

How does he fire that thing and not get launched backwards?

Paco said...

Stoop: I wondered about that myself.

Oh, and BTW, how the hell have you been? It's been ages, my dear fellow!

I always figured that the name of the company Wile E. Coyote ordered his equipment from, "Acme", was a euphemism for Paco Enterprises. The studio would want to avoid lawsuits, after all.

Good to see all is well Paco, hope anyone else who was in the way of Irene are all intact also, and no real damage done to your properties.

My grandfather used a "punt gun" in the early 1900s. He was about 10-12 and with his older brother Pierce, hunted ducks on the Ohio River.

They'd go out before dawn, sneak up on a bunch of ducks, and kill as many as possible. They'd clean the ducks and sell them to Cincinnati restaurants. He said they usually got in the mid-thirties every day.

They couldn't afford to buy shot, so they scrounged bits of scrap metal from blacksmiths and such. I thought he said the gun was a 3-incher, and swiveled about 45 degrees, total.

Good to see the Paco clan made it through Irene.

Imminent earthquakes somewhere in the world, and Fourth of July fireworks were the only things our dogs ever feared. Storms, meh. Not while they had a lap to sit in (even the Boxers).

As narrow as that boat is every shot would probably propel it backwards like a cigarette boat trying to outrun the Feds in the Keys. The dog would have to be one long distance swimmer. Fetch!
