Once again, David Brooks is the last to know

“I’m an Obama sap.”

Can’t say I didn’t try to warn you, Dave.

Meanwhile, Victor Davis Hanson – nobody’s sap – finds a reason to be grateful to Obama.
Barack Obama has done the United States a great, though unforeseen, favor. He has brought to light, as no one else could, many of the pernicious assumptions of our culture from the last half-century. He turned theory and “what ifs” into fact for all America to see, experience, and, yes, suffer through.

VDH is right, from what I've seen.

Young Americans and old Democrats who I met 2 years ago seemed incredibly naive. One old Dem was full of old cliches about 'Swedish social policy' (I've heard this for 40 years and seen its failures 30 years ago already). It would clearly take a graphic demonstration of failure to shift those voters who are at least somewhat practical and well-meaning.

Just like our ALP here, who have been voting for myths for a generation. A dose of reality helps.
