Now we’re talkin’ real money

The MegaMillions lottery is up to $640 million. While that trifling sum might not interest a titan of industry like J. Packington Paco III, I do believe I could scrape by on it for the foreseeable future (even after taxes). For the first time in many years, I have actually purchased some tickets. If I win, I think I’ll rush out and buy those chrome-plated screw-caps for the air valves on the tires of my ageing Chevy Suburban that I’ve always wanted. Or is that too utterly profligate?

Related: Most unconvincing news item of the day (if not in history).

Husband: Pack your bags. I’ve won the lottery.
Wife: Fantastic! But should I pack winter gear or summer clothes?
Husband: I don’t care, just clear out.

Hey, wait a minute. What am I laughing about; I handed my tickets over to Mrs. Paco...

Meh, I buy tickets now and then, but $640 million? I dunno. There is such a thing as too much money.

My lottery ticket story:
I was in college in 1974, when Illinois started it's lottery. Being a poor college student, I decided I wouldn't mind winning one million dollars (the actual jackpot amount at the time), so I went to the off campus lottery ticket seller, and bought one ticket.

Fifty cents.

I didn't win, so the heck with that. First, and last.

I'd take my 640 mil to the Indian casino and try to win back the couple hundred they've stolen from me the last few years.

I bought a ticket, just one pick. As expected, I didn't win.

I think I could endure and successfully handle the problems that article discusses. For example, I wouldn't have to worry about my family breaking up, since I am not married. At any rate, such a jackpot would buy me a better quality of misery than I have now.
