Colinoscopy

I’m beginning to think that the primary result of the evolution of social media is the creation of more opportunities for people to make complete fools of themselves. George Neumayr at the American Spectator discusses Colin Powell’s ludicrous cyber-canoodling with Romanian diplomat Corina Cretu (Try reading Corina’s emails out loud in a Greta Garbo voice; it’s more fun that way. Even better, considering the eccentric spelling and grammar, give it a Carmen Miranda delivery. And for Powell, I’m thinking perennially disappointed suitor and baffled dufus, Ralph Bellamy).

She's a bit of the mad gypsy. For him to allow this to go on was incompetent, he even mentions how close he is to the President and how his emails were hacked. Of course there is informality at high diplomatic levels but this is ridiculous. He could have had his secretary deal with the woman. How did he get so far up the ladder without dozens of such encounters - even schoolteachers are trained proper procedure in such situations.

It's sad that most of our leaders, in every nation, are such powderpuffs. But at least we don't have to remind them they are not gods, like the Romans did.

But! Yes you're right:

Social media is good for exposing all our idiocies.

FB, Twitter and gmail - the great equalizers?! Hell, you can read the emails aloud straight and they fail the laugh test.

Our founding fathers are rolling ion their graves. Franklin said "A Republic, if you can keep it.", well we are losing it. Hell, it may be lost already.

Quite a contrast there from the way David Petraeus was treated by the press.
