Tough school

Ohio State University's police force has added something new to its arsenal.

I guess fraternity hijinks must be getting out of hand.

(H/T: Captain Heinrichs).

Methinks that the OSU cops are in for a surprise. Some milbloggers are more than a little skeptical about a similar deployment.

From what I know about military equipment in general (lacking direct MRAP experience), I agree. I expect this beast will be brought out maybe once a year in a "show the flag" parade, and to impress/intimidate the students. Most of whom will likely be spectacularly unimpressed.

That assumes that they can keep the beast running, of course. That's a lot harder than it sounds.

Like one guy at the above link says, beware of free stuff from the goobermint.

They'll be lucky if the students don't steal it and take it for a joyride.

I can imagine, after the initial 5 yo-on-christmas-morning reaction by the police departments getting these, and the true cost-of-ownership sinks in, they'll sit unused in a wharehouse.

I wonder if they have to carry insurance on these beasts?

State universities tend to be self-insured, so called, I believe.

Make our day Animal House!

The militarization of police in the US of A is becoming absurd.

Deborah .... I thought "going commando" meant something else.

Maybe they heard about FEMA's MRE stockpiles, and the weapons, rounds, and military vehicles that Homeland Security has.
