Happy New Year!

Best wishes to all for a happy and prosperous New Year.

And if you're celebrating with champagne, be careful...

Happy New Year, Paco Clan!

That champagne cork video clip reminds me of our college days, buying Almaden pink "champagne" for $1.69 a bottle (yes, it was a long time ago, why do you ask?), shaking up the bottles and popping the corks in the parking lot to see how high they would go. Ah, youth.

Deborah.... Richard and I wish everyone a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2014!

Ah, Almaden and cork contests...thank you for the blast (so-to-speak) from the past, Rebecca.

Those two are the kind who look down the barrel of a gun. Tha-tha-that's all folks!

Shortly, we will be exercising our ability as Texans to blow up things. Richard bought a "party pack" with the required bottle rockets, roman candles, screamers, sparklers, smoke bombs, and something called "Nuclear Attack" that he tells me is really a star shell mortar. Though he was the CO of a mortar platoon, I ask for prayers. I love him and our new house. If you see a flash coming from the south....

Happy New Year to all Paconistas.

Do not leave us in suspense, Deborah, tell us what happened.

Pity we can't get hold of some Sumerian mead.

Only an idiot opens a bottle of champagne that way. You put your hand over the cork and work it out with your thumb, all yte while not pointing it in the direction of people ... rather like a firearm.

Other than that, may 2014 be better. Happy New Year

This was the 1st New Years Eve in many years where I didn't hear any gunshots at 12. (I usually spend it at home watching Twilight Zone.)

Something's wrong.

Deborah.... Sorry for the tardy response, Michael. I've been under the weather. So we bundled up around 9:30 pm, and headed out back. Richard went down range while I stayed on the deck should the fire department or sheriff show up. First up was the bottle rockets which he placed in the hard cover cat carriers. Three went whizzing skyward as should be...wait for it...wait for it...then he lit the four, ran back, watched it tilt sideways and propel across the two lane country road into the neighbors pasture. We waited for sounds of a cattle stampede, but the night was silent. I would have loved to see the look on the faces of those cattle. Then were the screamers, which lived up to their name. Lastly, "The Nuclear Attack". This makes a couple "peonie" explosions from one shell. Part of the debries landed in the dirt, part in the pool, and (though this debated) landed on the roof. Thankfully, it fizzeled out. Given the debate, we retired to the house where warm apple cider and comfy heat soothed. At midnight, we poured a wonderful new find, Duck Commander Miss Priss Moscato (don't laugh, it's very good) into small Bell (like Mason) jars and toasted the new year together in our first home! Hope yours was as wonderful!
