The worst thing happened to me tonight. A local came to my door asking for my signature to get him on the Republican primary. I couldn't because I'm still registered as a Democrat (from 2008 in order to knock Hillary off the ballot, a long story that is one of my great mistakes). Yes, throw rotten eggs and tomatoes, I deserve it, even though I voted for McCain and Romney, those losers.

I intend to go to the election office and change my affiliation to Republican (Independent?), but I have my reservations. I live in a highly Republican/Independent area. I learned during my stint at the polls last year that Democrats are few in this area, and so are underserved at the poll sites.

This is my dilemma: In Ohio, to date, there are numerous safeguards to protect one's vote, from Voter ID (imagine that), to multiple layers of paper checks concerning place of residence, etc, to scrutiny in the county electoral offices. But there are few Democrats in our precinct, thus few volunteers to man those tables (and we need an even balance at the poll tables). Should I remain Democrat to maintain the equal balance in representation at the poll tables, or change my affiliation (which is, at heart, Independent)? My vote will remain the same: Republican or conservative, whichever comes first, depending on the record and outlook of the candidate.

I think these are the kinds of questions that need to be addressed at the local level, and thoroughly vetted by citizen journalists, like those who warned us about Barack Obama.

Deborah....Rebecca, I was Democrat then Declined-to-state until hearing author/radio talk show host Denies Prager discussing party affiliation and voting. After careful consideration, I realized I am a Conservative Republican. This doesn't mean I side with the party 100% by-any-means. But DTS and Independent are only "feel good" designations. As with many things in life, we have to choose sides. You are already voting Republican, so it makes sense to register as such.
